Tracking basics without spreadsheet chaos

The few numbers that matter when you are comparing traffic sources and campaign pages.

Start with clean clicks

Raw hit counts can include bots, repeat loads, and automated checks. Use bot filtering and unique-visitor reporting before comparing campaign performance.

Measure the conversion

Conversion rate equals conversions divided by real clicks, multiplied by 100. If 8 of 200 visitors opt in, the page converts at 4%.

Keep sources identifiable

Give every source its own tracking link or SubID. Never combine several mailers or exchanges under one generic link if you want to know which source produced the lead.

Compare cost with value

Calculate cost per lead when you buy traffic. Then follow the leads far enough to see whether a cheaper source produces engaged subscribers, sales, or recurring commissions.

Change one variable

When testing, change one meaningful element at a time: headline, page, offer, or source. Otherwise you may see a different result without learning what caused it.
